What is free and what is Pro
The rule is simple: anything Word or a PDF can show without special structure is free. Anything that needs Word's equation editor, a rendered diagram, an automatic field or a server is Pro. You can always see the Pro result in the preview before deciding.
Two things worth being precise about
How a free PDF is made. Free PDF export opens the styled, print-ready page and hands it to your browser's own print dialog, where you choose "Save as PDF". Your fonts, margins, page breaks and code formatting are ours; the rendering and the file itself come from the browser. That is genuinely enough for most documents, but it is not the same thing as a server-rendered file, and headers, footers and page numbers added by the browser are outside our control. Server-rendered PDF, where the document is typeset by a headless Chromium we run and comes back as a finished file, is a Pro feature.
When a document leaves your device. There is no page count involved, and nothing is uploaded because a document is "long". A conversion goes to our server in exactly four cases: you convert more than one file at once (batch), you merge several files into one document, the source file is larger than 5 MB, or you explicitly tick "Render the PDF on our server". Everything else — including every free conversion and every Pro feature listed above those four — runs entirely in the tab you have open. When one of the four does apply, the exact sentence describing what will be uploaded is shown before anything is sent.
