Export any AI answer to Word in one click

The MDtoDOCX extension adds an Export to Word button under every answer on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek. Tables, code, equations and lists arrive as real Word objects, not a screenshot and not a wall of asterisks.

Free. No account needed. Conversion runs inside the extension; the answer never leaves your browser.

The button appears beside Copy on every answer.

Works where the answers are

ChatGPT

chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. Exports GPT answers with headings, nested lists, tables and code blocks.

Claude

claude.ai. Long structured answers, artifacts and Markdown tables come through with their structure intact.

Gemini

gemini.google.com. Handles Gemini's rendered tables and math, including LaTeX in responses.

DeepSeek

chat.deepseek.com. Reasoning traces are kept out of the document; only the answer is exported.

Kimi, Doubao and Tencent Yuanbao are next. On every other website the extension stays inactive and adds nothing to the page.

What the extension does

Export one answer. Download it as Word (.docx) or PDF, or copy it as rich text and paste straight into Word or Google Docs with formatting intact.
Export the whole conversation. Every question becomes a heading and every answer a section, so a research chat turns into a readable document.
Right-click any selection. Select Markdown-looking text on any page, choose Convert to Word, and get a .docx. This is the only feature that runs outside the supported AI sites, and only on the text you selected.

Free

  • Export single answers to Word and PDF
  • Export whole conversations
  • Copy as rich text
  • Right-click convert on selected text
  • Headings, lists, tables, code blocks, images

With Pro Pro

  • LaTeX in answers becomes native, editable Word equations
  • Mermaid blocks become vector diagrams
  • Font, table of contents and heading numbers from the popup
  • Your saved presets from the web app, synced after sign-in
  • Same plan as the website; see Pricing

Permissions, and why each one is there

The extension asks for four permissions and a short list of hosts. It does not request access to all websites, it does not read your browsing history, and it loads no remote code.

PermissionWhat it is used for
activeTabRead the answer you clicked Export on, in the tab you are looking at, only after you click. Nothing is read in background tabs.
storageRemember your default output format, font and paper size, and cache your plan status so the popup opens instantly.
contextMenusAdd the Convert to Word item to the right-click menu on selected text.
identitySign in with your MDtoDOCX account to unlock Pro features and sync presets. Optional; the free features never trigger a sign-in.
Host accessOnly chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com and chat.deepseek.com. The content script is not injected anywhere else.

Privacy

Conversion happens inside the extension, in your browser. The text of an answer is read from the page when you click Export, converted to a .docx or PDF locally, and handed to the browser's download manager. It is not sent to MDtoDOCX or anyone else. The extension sends no usage events and carries no analytics SDK, so there is no analytics setting in the popup and nothing to switch off. Its only network requests are to check your plan when you sign in, to render a PDF on our server when you ask for one (Pro), and a plain GET for a public JSON file of CSS selectors so a chat site's redesign can be fixed without a store update. Batch conversion, the other Pro feature that needs a server, is started from the web app rather than from the extension. The full policy, including what the Chrome Web Store requires us to disclose, is in the Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is the extension free?
Yes. Exporting answers and conversations to Word and PDF, copying as rich text and the right-click converter are free with no account. Native equations, diagrams and format presets use the same Pro plan as the website.
Does it send my ChatGPT conversations anywhere?
No. The answer is read from the page only when you click Export and is converted inside the extension. It is never uploaded to MDtoDOCX or any third party.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi and any other Chromium browser that installs from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons. A Firefox version is planned.
Why is the export better than copy and paste?
The AI sites keep the answer's structure in the page, and the extension reads that structure directly: tables become Word tables, code keeps its font and indentation, nested lists keep their levels, and LaTeX is recognised. Copying from the page gives you flattened text with asterisks.
Can I export a whole conversation?
Yes. Open the popup and choose Export conversation. Each question becomes a heading and each answer a section, in order, in one .docx or PDF.
Do I have to sign in?
Not for the free features. Signing in is only offered when you turn on a Pro option, so that your plan and presets can be checked. The identity permission is not used until then.
